In recent years, more and more people suffer from Hashimoto’s disease, and many patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are actually caused by Hashimoto’s disease. Because Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disease, it is difficult to cure. Generally, as long as the nail function is normal, the purpose of treatment will be achieved. This has led many patients to believe that as long as the nails are functioning normally, Hashimoto’s disease does not need treatment.
Many patients with Hashimoto’s disease are detected during the annual physical examination. In the early stage of the disease, many patients only have elevated antibodies, but the nail function is normal and there are no obvious symptoms. For Hashimoto’s disease with only high antibodies, Western medicine usually tells us that it is not a big deal because there is no good treatment. It can be checked regularly and treated when there are obvious symptoms. Most patients with clinically diagnosed Hashimoto’s disease do not know or even understand the disease. Hearing Western medicine or taking it for granted that it is just high antibody, it is a small problem and does not need treatment.
In fact, the antibody index is high, and the thyroid has been diseased. If nothing is done, it will definitely continue to develop. When there are obvious symptoms, it will increase the difficulty of treatment.
The antibodies we refer to generally refer to two kinds of antibodies in Hashimoto’s disease: thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb). These two antibodies are the main weapons our own immune system uses to attack the thyroid. As long as these two antibodies are found to be high during the examination, it can be determined that Hashimoto is sick. During the course of the disease, these two antibodies continuously attack the thyroid gland, causing damage to the thyroid gland, which leads to abnormal thyroid function. However, due to the slow progression of the disease, there will be many patients with normal nail function.
In the early stage of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism or diffuse goiter is the main symptom, and the disease develops slowly. Sometimes a goiter doesn’t seem to change significantly over several years. Although the disease will not cause life-threatening in the short term, if no active treatment is carried out, hyperthyroidism will generally develop into hyperthyroidism with hypothyroidism as the disease progresses, and eventually hypothyroidism will be caused by damage to thyroid function, requiring life-long medication.
So Hashimoto’s disease should be treated as soon as possible, even if it is just a high antibody. You can choose Chinese medicine for conditioning to stabilize the condition and avoid the development of Hashimoto’s disease to cause hypothyroidism.
