Recently, a parent asked me: Children go to junior high school as soon as they start school. How should they learn English in junior high school? This problem really needs the attention of parents and children. Many children lack a clear understanding of junior high school English, leading to a gradual decline in grades, and some students even fail in the first semester. Therefore, in order to make a smooth transition from primary school English to junior high school English, it is recommended to do the following:
1. Understand the difference between junior high school English and primary school English.
The content of primary school English is lively and interesting, with rich pictures and texts, various scenes and dialogues, so that students can acquire knowledge while becoming interested in English as a language and keep it going. However, the learning content of junior high school English has increased a lot, such as vocabulary. There are only a dozen words in each unit of junior high school English, but there are dozens of words in each unit of junior high school English. This requires us to know the modules of each unit of junior high school English, instead of adopting the original learning rhythm of elementary school, actively preview, especially words, and memorize them in advance. Don’t wait for the teacher’s arrangement. When the teacher says it’s too late, it is likely to start the next unit of study. Children will find that they can’t learn the words of this unit, and they have to memorize the words of the next unit again, forming a vicious circle, resulting in increased learning pressure, decreased interest in learning, and decreased grades.
Second, pay attention to the usual accumulation.
As a language, English learning is a process of constantly accumulating friends and excellent resources. At ordinary times, we should pay attention to accumulation. We need to have a solid grasp of everything from word phrases to sentence patterns and grammar, and review and consolidate them in time. The decline in many children’s grades is also caused by the accumulation of knowledge blind spots.
Third, pay attention to the cultivation of reading habits.
Many junior high school students have unsatisfactory grades because they lose too many points in reading. There are many reasons for poor reading ability, but I think the most important one is not developing good reading habits. Many children lack this habit. There is no shortage of English reading materials for children. The school will uniformly subscribe to English newspapers, and few children will take the initiative to read the above articles. Therefore, as a child in the first grade of junior high school, we should start with the cultivation of habits and develop the habit of reading in English. When reading, pay attention to accumulating vocabulary, summarizing the main idea of the article, and improving reading ability.
Fourth, pay attention to wrong questions and learn to reflect and summarize.
I never advocate that junior high school students sort out wrong questions, but write an analysis of wrong questions, tell which knowledge points are being tested in this question, and what are the reasons for the mistakes? What should I pay attention to in the future? It’s not terrible to be wrong. I’m afraid that I don’t know myselfWhy is it wrong, I don’t know how to reflect on the summary. I have met some students who love to brush questions and seem to be very diligent, but their grades have not improved. The reason is that I don’t like to think and summarize, and make repeated mistakes of the same question type. Therefore, after entering junior high school, you must learn to reflect and summarize, and write wrong questions for analysis.
The above is just my personal experience over the years, for reference only. If you have a better opinion, you can also speak in the comment area.
