Reflex shooting (the use of reflex shooting)
Pros and cons are often used for dialogue between characters and to express the relationship between characters and things. The diversity of pros and cons leads the director to write scenes separately Sometimes hesitant. Too many choices, too many combinations, but no way to start. It’s like a man imagining his lover. Is she pure or sexy? Is she proud to match me or humble enough to make her parents like me? I am sometimes strong and sometimes weak. How should she respond? Practice has proved that people have multiple personalities, so be careful.
Spielberg once said that he is most afraid of making dialogue dramas because there are too many ways to deal with them. The author will briefly analyze the use of front and back fighting from other movies.
First of all, analyze the reverse shot from the general structure, mainly including internal reverse and external reverse. (The example below is based on two people facing each other in a straight line)
Counterattack:
Counterattack:
In terms of composition, the biggest difference between the two is that the internal kick is single, while the external kick has the attributes of shoulder, waist, hip, and knee. In terms of content, the internal reflection pays more attention to the emotions of the characters in each picture, and the external reflection also shows the relationship between the characters *** . One of the more usage methods is to combine each other, as shown in the figure below.
This type of counterattack consciously differentiates the importance of the characters in a certain topic and illustrates a certain relationship. To put it simply, when we have a single personality (but not shoulders, etc.), this character is usually considered “strong” in this topic, and the audience will pay more attention to his emotional conflicts, and the other party belongs to the party that promotes the progress of the topic. Will pay more attention to his impact on the other party. In a dialogue scene, there are often many different topics between characters, so in the counterattack, in the next topic, the characters in one shot may use an over-the-shoulder shot, and the characters in the over-the-shoulder shot become One shot, they’ll do one or more lightweight transitions. This is the simplest and most practical technique for photographing human dialogue.
Let me give a simple example to analyze.
Screenshot from “A Woman’s Smell”, this scene describes that one of the young people came to the colonel’s house for the first time to take care of the elders.
The front shot of picture 1 is the middle shot of the young man with his back slightly tilted. We speculate that the reason why the middle shot is used here is to briefly explain the relationship between the characters and the environment, and to create a sense of alienation, showing that the characters are at a loss, while the back shot implies that the opposite character has a lower status.
Figure 2 is the inverse of Figure 1. The waist shot is used here, and it is a panoramic shot. The shot over the waist breaks the line of sight in Figure 1. Instead of using normal line of sight, it shoots head-up. The reason here is that the colonel is blind and can only look in front of himself, and the second is to show his majesty and strength, he will not look up at others. So why do you use your waist for the backhand here, instead of a single panorama or even a medium shot? In the plot, when one of the colonels saw this young man for the first time,I don’t like him and think he is stupid, so they naturally have a great sense of distance. What’s more, it is the first appearance of the colonel, so the use of the panoramic view fits the plot very well. This over-the-waist shot brings the young man into the relationship with the colonel, and its greater role is to suggest to the audience that the colonel will have a great influence on the young man, which is a foreshadowing.
Figures 3 and 4 take place in the second half of this scene. In this short period of time, the young man explained his family situation to the Colonel, showing humility, while the Colonel showed his ability to ridicule and was very arrogant. It’s easy to explain these two using singles.
Look at another set of screenshots. This scene takes place in the second half of the film, when the next gang returns to the hotel to find the colonel about to commit suicide.
In picture 1, when the young man arrives in the room, the colonel is holding a gun. The close-up at this time focuses on his surprise, while in Figure 2, the counterattack is still a single close-up. The colonel threatens to kill the young man, and the mirror in the picture reflects the colonel’s profile. In the plot, we all know that the colonel just wants to kill himself, he is in a very desperate state. In the next development, the young man wanted to stop the colonel and used an over-the-shoulder shot in the counter-attack in picture 3, which shows that the young man had to be involved at this time in order to influence the occurrence of this incident, and the colonel was his affected objects. This kind of relationship is clear at a glance in the over-the-shoulder shot, which is not available in a single counterattack. The same is true for Figure 4.
So let me briefly summarize that under normal circumstances, a single person’s counterattack has a strong emotional conflict of the character itself, while the over-the-shoulder counterattack shot has the relationship and conflict of the entire event.
Let’s talk about the composition of the counterattack first. (The following example is based on two people facing each other in a straight line)
As we all know, after the popularization of widescreen, the composition method has undergone great changes, bringing infinite possibilities and integrating tradition and new technology. However, its aesthetic content remains the same.
1. The above two sets of over-the-shoulder backhand shots are composed using the most basic rule of thirds, that is, the main characters occupy two thirds of the picture, and the secondary characters occupy three thirds. one-third. This method works for both widescreen and 16:9 screens. It is very obvious that the host is the host and the guest is the guest.
2. The above group of counterattacks is a model to illustrate the advantages of widescreen. It can be seen that the main characters are all from the center of the picture and the center of vision, which to a certain extent avoids the jumping of the picture when cutting shots, increases the coherence, and highlights the center of vision. This is a composition method commonly used in widescreen movies. In fact, a similar processing method has also appeared on the 16:9 screen, such as the picture below.
Strictly speaking, this is not within the scope of the front and back.
3. The above-mentioned set of counterattacks is a kind of over-the-shoulder means between Youyou.com and Youyou.com. Both actors occupy the paintingThe hollow half of the face forms a kind of suggestion that they are related to each other, and they share the same disease.
4. The above two sets of counterattacks are another kind of central counterattack. The main characters are completely solemn, highlighting a strong sense of opposition and negotiation, which is often seen in gangster movies or many fast-paced movies. Let me give another example of Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu’s favorite method of intermediate composition.
This is Ozu’s most famous film “Tokyo Story”. In most of Ozu’s films, he prefers this kind of centered composition, and the characters speak to the camera a lot. Obviously, it’s a style. It is said that what Ozu pursues in his pictures is a kind of stability and harmony. The camera angle is almost three feet above the ground, generally presenting the law of composition where the center of expression coincides with the center of vision. Some people like this style, and some people don’t like it. In short, stylized things are constantly stretched with the trend of the times, and the things that are most acceptable to those who visit Ziyuan.com are also making slight progress all the time.
There are far more than two ways to shoot a conversation between two or more people. We’ll give you more information on conversation capture in the next topic.
The following are some counterattack pictures for your reference.
