The computer won’t turn on (the usual way to deal with the computer can’t turn on)
When you need the computer, you find that pressing the switch does not respond. Most users feel that the computer is broken and seek help in repairing it. However, there are some tricks that can help you troubleshoot and even fix it.
There are many situations where the computer cannot be turned on. This means that the fan does not turn, the buzzer does not sound, and the indicator light of the wired keyboard does not respond. In other words, the computer does not respond to boot. The following is a summary of long-term experience, hoping to give you a reference.
First, troubleshoot the switch/appliance.
When the machine cannot be turned on, first check whether the mains power is normal, whether the power strip switch is turned off, and whether there are any problems with various wires. It is necessary to ensure that the connection between the host and the home appliance is in good condition. Some friends may think this is a joke, but in fact, many friends who pretend to be more know that this happens often!
We cannot confirm the integrity of the power cord, but we can try to replace it. The power cord plugged into the host is the same as the rice cooker, monitor, etc.
Is the power supply damaged?
The power supply is the part that supplies power to all parts of the host, which can be compared to the heart. Many computers will not turn on due to poor or damaged power supply.
In order to test that the power supply is working properly, here is a little trick. Unplug the power interface (20P or 24P) connected to the motherboard, and then short-circuit the green wire and any black wire with a wire to see if the power can be turned on. The sign of starting is that the fan can spin.
There are a lot of black wires for power supply now. This is an interface definition diagram. Please judge according to the position and shape of the interface.
This step can intuitively judge whether the power supply is damaged and whether it needs to be replaced with a new one. However, there is a situation where some power supplies are aging but not ineffective, and there will be no response when turned on immediately after shutdown. They need to wait ten minutes to start normally, otherwise they will automatically power off when the computer load increases. This is because the actual power is insufficient after the power supply is aged. In this case, it is better to replace the power supply with a new one.
Solemn warning: non-professionals, it is forbidden to disassemble the power supply for maintenance! ! !
Is the switch button of the chassis out of order?
I have seen many times that the switch time of the main box is too long, and it takes a lot of force to turn it on. If the switch is broken, it will not start.
You can unplug the jumper connecting the switch on the main board, short it with a wire or other tools that can be powered on, and see if it can be turned on. The jumper position of the switch on the motherboard is different, but it is generally marked on the motherboard.
The short needle can be opened, and the switch that needs to be replaced can be purchased online.
Reset BIOS
Some computers have been idle for a long time, or overclocking failed, nocannot boot. At this point, you need to reset the BIOS to get back to normal.
Remove the motherboard’s power connector and short the switch pins to release the remaining power. Then, find the CMOS battery of the main board and remove it from Youyou.com.
After a few minutes, install it, then plug it back in. This approach is valid for the above cases. If the computer is used for a long time, you can replace the battery with a new one.
Minimal Systematic Method for Troubleshooting Hardware
The methods just mentioned are not valid. Those books can confirm that there is a problem with the hardware, usually the motherboard. But before that, there is one last trick: the minimal system method. Excellent Resource Network
This method is a bit more complicated than the above, for the sake of ease of reading, it is divided into sections.
The lower configurations that can be started are CPU, motherboard, and power supply.
Keep these and remove all other accessories. These three tests are better disassembled. I have encountered a situation before. All accessories are tested normally, and then they cannot be started after being installed in the case. Finally, it was found that the screws on the main board of the chassis were shaken and caused a short circuit, so I tried to disassemble it for testing.
After checking the power supply of the motherboard and processor, if the above three parts are short-circuited and there is no response, it can be basically determined that the motherboard is the problem. First of all, the startup does not respond. Even if the CPU fan does not turn, the power supply fan must be turned on. The probability of both being broken at the same time is very low and can be ignored. In addition, the CPU is very durable and has a much longer service life than the motherboard. Generally, it can be judged that the motherboard is faulty and can only be repaired or replaced at this time.
If it can be started, continue to add memory.
Before installation, use an eraser to polish the two sides of the gold finger of the memory, and use a brush to clean the memory slot. The probability of memory corruption is not too high. If it cannot be started, try another slot and try again. If you have two memories, try one first and test the two separately. If you can’t start it in the end, you can only change the memory.
It can be successfully started through the previous step, which shows that the minimum system method has played a role and eliminated some hidden dangers. Or if the mainboard processor has an integrated display, you can shut down, plug in the display and start it up again, and the boot screen should be displayed. At this point the hard drive is not installed and I cannot access the system.
The computer is not integrated, so you can plug in a discrete graphics card at this time.
Just like the memory, the graphics card also has golden fingers. Use an eraser to polish and clean the graphics card slot. Plug in the graphics card and external power supply (some low-end monitors do not have external power supply) and test. If it doesn’t turn on, it means the graphics card is the problem. If it can be turned on, it should be able to display the boot screen. If the graphics card fails, it can only be repaired or replaced.
The last is the hard disk. Under normal circumstances, even if the hard disk is damaged, it will not affect the computer’s startup. It will only cause the hard disk to be found after booting, and the system cannot be accessed. The failure of the hard disk does not belong to this article, and it will be explained in another article another day.
The above is a simple process of the minimum system method. The basic idea is to add hardware one after another while retaining the basic hardware that can be started, so as to determine which faulty accessory cannot be started.

Unable to boot is one of the common computer failures, which may be a headache for ordinary users. This article has sorted out some common solutions to this fault, which may help you restart your computer. Even if you can’t start it, you won’t be fooled when you go to the maintenance point.
Of course, if your computer is still under warranty, you don’t have to disassemble it for repairs yourself. Should you need after-sales help. After all, this is the service you should have. If you open it yourself, you will void the warranty.
